We have some pretty outstanding spring fishing. During the early season the water condition can vary greatly due to seasonal runoffs. Fishing is often at it’s best.... or worst. At this time of year we are doing float trips on the Clark Fork and Kootenai Rivers. These waters are open year ‘round. It’s a good time to shake off the ol’ cabin fever and get limbered up for the summer. But when the “Action” really opens up around here is when the water temperature reaches 50º. This usually happens around mid May when general fishing season opens and all waters are open. This is Salmon Fly Hatch Time!! The first of these legendary hatches take place on our own Thompson River here in Northwest Montana and we here at Jerry Malson Outfitting throw our annual Salmon Fly Fishing party. Big flies and big trout are the order of the day. We also want to mention here that we don’t want to forget about the Skwala Stones, the big Gray Drakes, Brown Caddis and the outstanding Blue-Wing Olive hatches on the Clark Fork River.
